Talks about prisoners

We have been reading in the media that the newly elected President is talking about current prisoners in the jail. What is all this do with? Does he genuinely believe there are lots of people put behind the bars for the wrong reasons? Or is he indirectly referring to people like Fahala Saeed, the journalist of Minivan Daily?

We are aware that he got lots of votes during the last election from these prisoners, when voting by prisoners is such a controversial issue. If these people behind the bars can play computers in the cells, go fishing in the sea, enjoy barbecue on the open beach and finally vote during all the elections, how are they different from a free man?

Although we do not reject the whole idea, we must be aware that the crime rate in the country is increasing and the severity of these crimes is also increasing. These must be dealt with appropriately to save the larger population. Everyone is saying Male' is no safe because of gang violence and drug-related crimes. While the president is talking about giving concessions to current jailers, does he also think about these issues going out of hand?
