Readers' Letters

Dear Editor(s),

I joined MDP and have been with the party since very long. I voted for Mr Nasheed in the last election. I had wished for real changes and a better government than the former ruler. However, some of my fears are coming back to me now. Hence, I take this opportunity to share them with you.

1. It is true Mr Nasheed does not have family members in the cabinet, but he does have selfish greedy politicians and has assigned posts to people with conflict of interests. His colleagues gagged at the former ruler Mr. Maumoon when people with no appropriate qualifications were appointed to ministerial posts, but today we see a dentist making policies for farmers and fishermen!

2. Over the past few weeks I see Mr Nasheed offering high positions in the governments as "political gifts" to his loyals, people from his campaign office, and party activists without considering their capability or efficacy.

3. Mr Maumoon had violated our constitution again and again during his tenure as the president. Not just that. He had unjustly punished lots of people for mere political reasons. As of today, he has not taken any responsibilities for them or sought forgiveness from these people. (Those words he said during his last address to the nation was nothing more than a formality lacking any sense of remorse. He never admitted to his deliberate crimes against the humanity.) Yet, Mr Nasheed is quick to offer all the incentives and benefits he asked for without any mandate from the parliament.

I would greatly appreciate if you could publish this email on your blog, which I find very professional and useful at a time like this when the media is very much silent. I must say yours is an eye-opener for relevant issues affecting the larger population.

Yours sincerely,
Naeem

Naeem,
Nasheed may have about 100-500 or so very close campaign workers and activists and there will be some family and frienda among this. There are over 600 political appointed jobs to be replaced. In a Parliamentary system, most people who were close to the campaign will get an appoitment. (oops we are supposed to be a Presidential system)

Re Mr.Maumoon do you really think that Maumoon had violated the Constitution? If so why did'nt our elected MPs eject him? Once he is out can he punish them for doing it? No, a corrupt and slef serving Parliament was the reason we were in a mess and will continue to be so as long as we, the voters elect such people to the Parliament. Maumoon could not have survived without the full backing of the people we voted in, and if we continue to sell our votes, we will continue to have the same.

mi, you are right about our parliament and everyone knows it but poor dr shaheed was forced to resign from cabinet for saying so. again look what they did when president nasheed sent names of his cabinet for endorsement. real issues like conflict of interests and amin faisal involvement in 3rd nov were neither debated nor looked into. these guys need to learn how things work from american presidential system

Where is the free media????
Afraid of another dictator???
Where is the transparency and accountablity in decision making???
How can a dentist be put in a fisheries ministry and no one lifts a hand???
Does politics justify any decision???

This looks like a Full Circle.

Wake up for the parliamentelections.
